ReplyDeleteIt will be a very challenging next 17 days - apart from the extreme weather (yesterdays min temp at -21 degrees) and high altitude problems - the political situation in Nepal is not at its best.
But despite all this we will give it our best shot and hopefully we will succeed. !!!!
Some our our achievements have been mentioned below
Looking forward to your good wishes during the trip.
Abhinav Anand
As our stay in XL draws to a close we would like to share with you the progress that we have made on XLRI Leadership Expedition.
What started as a vague dream by XLNC - thnx to the effort put in by the expedition members, is turning out to be the BIGGEST media event from XLRI in the recent few years. A special thanks to Fr Casimir Raj,Prof Madhukar Shukla, Prof Venugopal and Prof Sharad Sarin for helping and guiding us out on this expedition.
This is NOT about 20 ppl going on a VACATION. This is a first of its kind initiative by any B – Skool in India. IIM A’s Shodhh Yatra is a different program altogether. XLE comes closest to Wharton Leadership Program but even then its unique because of the social cause. Please visit the website www.xlnatureclub.org for detail abt XLE and to view the responses that we have got.
Some of the things that XLRI Leadership Expedition has been able to / plans to achieve:
A dedicated website for the event which has received over 4000 hits. There have been hits from over 25 countries. (Please refer annexure).
Online Quiz B(Aware) was a big hit. It was send across to over 3000 people including (college students & working professionals). It was send across both India and Abroad. CARE had sent it worldwide to all its offices. Students from the top B schools participated in the quiz.
The expedition will flag off from the TAJ Bengal on 13th morning. GOC Arun Roy, Bengal Area will be the Chief Guest. This event will be one of the biggest Media Events that XL has ever seen in the recent years. There will be over 25 odd media people who will be invited.
On 14th evening, the Kathmandu Alumni Cell is hosting dinner for us in Nepal.
We will try for a press release from Everest Base Camp top if its feasible.
We will try for a press release / media interaction from Kathmandu on our return if it’s feasible.
Everest Base Camp is not an easy trek. The conditions and the situations will be very trying. We request you to extend us your good wishes.
You can also visit and scrapping on the comment book on the website www.xlnatureclub.org

There is a BUZZ about XLE2006 to Everest Base Camp amongst the students across B Skools as well as the XL Alumni. Especially the alumni seems very interested.
Message from Surabhi Loshali (PMIR 2003-05)

There have been many more such quotes and I have received lots of mails asking future XLEs to include them as well.
We have received very positive feedback about this initiative. Some of the encouraging comments from Prof. Mike Ussem, Incharge Wharton Leadership Expedition, Founding Prof of XLNC, Prof Mohan Agarwaal are mentioned below. ( Refer Annexure)
We have received emails from other B schools students, XL alumni and working professionals who want to be part of this initiative in the future and have even expressed a willingness to be part of XLNC.
IIM C,Adventure club secy – Ramanathan had called me up and apparently now they also want to go to Everest Base Camp J . In any case will beat them to the base camp – so that makes the score XL – 1 , IIMC – 0
Some of the efforts that we have put in things that we have achieved:
Spend over 100 man hours in training by CARE
Proposed Field work of over 200 man hours including Jamshedpur and Nepal till Everest Base Camp.
We are addressing the students in Jamshedpur colleges – NIT , MGM as well in Cal, Presidency and Xaviers so that we can reach out to as many students as we can and involve them into AIDS awareness activities.
Some of the comments that we have received are :
Dear Anand
Best wishes for the expedition, and we would value
learning about your experience with it.
– Best
Mike Useem
( Prof in Charge Wharton eadership Program)
Wow, I can not believe it!!! As a faculty founder of the XLNC in early nineties, I am so……. very pleased and proud that XLNC has moved on from the early days of promoting recycled papers notebooks, requesting last person
switch off in the class room to save energy in the institute, collecting old newspapers and donating the proceeds to the local home care of psychically challenged kids and million other little pieces, to now scaling
new heights literally. The great Himalaya beckons you guys. Congratulations to Prof. Matthai and Abhinav for such a brilliant initiative and good luck for a safe and successful expedition. I stay anxious to hear further on
your expedition and experiences. And yes, a cool site.
Best wishes,
Mohan Agrawal ( Founding Prof XLNC )

It is gratifying to see the progress made by XLNC and the various initiatives you folks are taking up. By the way of a little history - I am BM-97 and was the first secretary of XLNC. This was previously called 'Green Cell' and we decided to 'rebrand' it to make it more mainstream within the XL culture. Great to see that our initial efforts have borne fruit and XLNC flourishes. Good luck & keep it up!
