Round up of Upcoming Alumni Meets

Dear All

XLRI Summer Alumni Meets, 2011 have been scheduled in the month of May. The batch of 2010-2012 is working really hard to make them a grand success, much bigger and magnificient than the last year.

Schedule for the meet:

Please spread the word.

City
Date
Venue
Hyderabad
7th May
Boulder Hills, Gachibowli, Hyderabad
Delhi
14th May
The Parkland Retreat, Main Chhatarpur Mandir Road, Satbari, New Delhi
Chennai
21st May
Railway Officer's Club, Sterling Road
Mumbai
21st May
Mayfair Banquet Hall, Worli, Mumbai
Bangalore
28th May
The Royal Orchid
Kolkata
21st May
Floatel 9/10, Kolkata jetty, Opp. SBI HQ, Strand Road, Kolkata.

However, they are really struggling with the sponsorship and I am afraid they might have to cancel a few venues due to lack of liquidity. The Summer Meets last year were a great success due to the support shown by the XLers in arranging sponsorship. I organized the meet last year and I know how tough it is for the organizing team while managing their internships.

On behalf of the organizing team, I request you to look into the matter and contact the undersigned if you wish to sponsor.

xlchennai : Blowout! Thank you!!

To everyone who came for the Alumni Evening on the 22nd: Thank you folks, for making it.

A big Thank YOU to the "kids" of the 2011 batch who did quite a bit of running around to make sure things fell in place. And to their seniors, from 2010, who did not allow last year's experience dampen their enthu.

Thanks to Ramaa Ramesh (2010) for putting together that lovely .ppt; we must now get it to go viral!

Thanks to Viji for "pairing off" people - and helping cut across batches!

Thanks to Mohan Kumar for helping the team negotiate rates with Accord.... we'll turn to you more often!

And while the sponsors must no doubt be thanked, many of them were faceless - except for Buildcraft: thank you Ravi, for being one of the sponsors!

And to those who were unable to come - thank you for tolerating all the mails, and the repeated sms-es. We did miss you; hope to see you - and in fact everyone on this group - at the next alumni evening!

Cheers,
Shantaram
(Who, by sending mails and sms-ing, pretends to be part of the organizing team:D)

xlchennai : Trying for another cricket match

Dear guys,

We have let pass 2008 without a single cricket match being played and so want to start off 2009 on a positive note.

Subject to ground availability, we are trying to fix up a match with either IIM-A or IIM-C on Jan 26th, 2009 or the First Sunday in Feb 2009.

Do write to me your interest in signing...who knows some of the IPL franchisees may be scouting for fresh faces considering we were the 1st to launch the T-20 cricket matches way back in 2006 and 2007. This is your chance to make it big. So stretch out and get into shape in case you are out of touch with physical fitness for some time.

Also a belated Happy new Year to all u folks and families for 2009.

Cheers,
Murali (Class of 84)

Hopefully again another CRICKET MATCH

Dear Folks,

We guys sure missed a golden opportunity to patent/copyright or whatever else possible to protect our concept rights over the 20-20 cricket format...long before it became a world wide craze we guys had already made it customary to only play 20-20 matches....but then as they say we could have had a piece of history !!!!

Now getting onto the actual subject of this email...we are cos of PUBLIC DEMAND trying to schedule our annual round of cricket matches for Feb 10th and FEb 17th both Sundays. I have got in touch with JK of IIM-c to check for ground availabilty and player availability esp fro IIM-A and IIM- others. So guys and gals do try and stay in town and check up yr emails for more news. Also prospective players and those interested do email me/Tommy/Shanta yr names, email id and contact numbers so that we update our cricketers' database.

The following is the invitation from K Pandiarajan (84BMD),
...the Founder MD of Ma Foi Management Consulting, Director of Madras Stock Exchange, recipient of Eisenhower Fellowship for Leadership...
...among his many other achievements....

-------------------------------

Dear XLers

I have pleasure in enclosing a cordial invitation to attend the first Anniversary of our Ma Foi Foundation (MFF) in Chennai on the 26th Sept 2007. We presently have adopted 1130 poor children from the Sivakasi and Chennai areas from 46 schools – they get scholarship, mentorship and career education from 5th standard to college completion ( Rs 1200 pa upto 10th std, Rs 1500 pa during higher secondary and Rs 5000 pa during college). All our Corporate Social Responsibility efforts have been integrated under MFF since last Sept. We run a School for the underprivileged in Chennai with about 650 children. We have taken micro-finance to about 8000 women through Self-Help Group and fostered about 450 tiny enterprises. We also run a network of about 172 NGO’s under the CIOSA (Confederation of Indian Organisations for Service and Advocacy) banner. We have also recognized 10 Young Achievers (unmined gems) every year during this function. You can get more details about this in www.themafoifoundation.org

The function will start at 6.30 pm and will see a creative expression by some of our Disha Scholars, recognition of achievements, performance by young artists led by Abhaswaram Ramji/Venky (Venky Monkey fame) and networking. I look forward to your support and wishes,

Chennai Alumni Meet - a Report

Hi,

Special thanks to PNS, Suresh Reddy, G Sreenivasan (GS), Sethu and MKR Karthik for helping with getting the whole evening off the ground. We had close to 50 people turning up, including the classes of 2008 & 2009.

No music, no speeches, just one distraction (more on that later), meant that folks had a lot of opportunity to catch up with each other - there were enough decibels for some folks in the next hall to walk in and 'request' us to pipe down; but on a Friday evening? Fat chance!

We'll do it again - maybe a few months later!!

The distraction? A quiz on Jampot & XL. Questions are given below.... answers later!

Cheers,
Shantaram

Chennai Alumni Dinner on September 14

Hi,

It is a pleasure to invite all XL Alumni in Chennai to gather at the Alumni Club (1, 3rd Avenue, Boat Club Road, R.A. Puram, Chennai 600028) at 7.00 pm on September 14.

We will be hosting the XLers of the current batches (2008 & 2009) who will be in Chennai for their 1st term vacations. We do not have any formal agenda for the evening; the focus is on catching up with each other, across batches - as we all know, it's been a while since we had a 'non-summer-trainee-organized-alumni-meeting'.

We expect the per-head cost to be around Rs.500/-; this is slightly higher than usual, since we will be sharing the cost of the 08/09 batches between us. Of course, if we can have a few sponsors, it will reduce the per-head rates!

Please spread the word, coax, cajol and persuade all alumni you know to be present!

Looking forward to the 14th!!

Regards,
Shantaram
