As most of you would know by now. 7 bomb blasts have hapenned on the Local trains on the Western line between 6:00 & 6:30 pm.
Quite a few dead and injured being reported.
To add to the confusion, phone lines have been jammed and its quite difficult to get through to people by calling them or sms. Some internet lines are working. I hope mine holds on for awhile.
As of now,
Central & Harbour Lines running
Long Distance Trains Halted
Western Line stalled. Might not start again till tomorrow.
Special BEST buses are supposed to have been deployed to ferry commuters from Churchgate to Andheri.
38 casualties at Hinduja Hospital.
Some at Cooper Hospital, KEM Hospital & Sion Hospital.
Thought of letting XLers who are connected leave a message here to tell friends & relatives that they are ok. If you have heard from any XLer in Mumbai who is safe, please post a comment here.

what a sad situation?
ReplyDeleteterror attacks like these has been going on for years now, 2003 was the worst, in the recent past; it had stopped for a while and things were chugging along quite nicely....
I am at a total loss for words on how to even begin thinking about these things any longer...depresses me lot!
It pains me a lot and my heart goes out to all those who suffer. It seems so pointless to get up in the morning and see this "blasted" over the front page of Straits Times.
thanks karishma for making the roll call - excellent idea - makes us share information fast and offer a few moments of our time to think and pray about these things.
hope your near dear and close ones are safe and let us all spend a few minutes in silence to those innocent souls and who perished and whose families are devastated.
just when things are rolling in India - now this - literally de-rails the economy and the spirit.
Mumbai will get back to norman by morning... it already must be... it is a sense of deep loss and we have a great social structure to give emotional, moral and financial support. May not be easily ariculated with spreadsheets... but yes the social fabric is intact.
ReplyDeleteThat is the India, we are talking of....We have been attacked for 200 years... invaders from afghan, imperialists, rulers and ghaznis of the world...and the reslient India... comes out stronger each time.... unlike most western economies.
I personally doubt if this will have any long term impact on economy... may be a few travel bans from the US at best... what else can we expect Sam...
India will continue to dominate inspite of these "brief interrupts".
What is saddening... is the way a CNBC and western media, started giving a religious overtone to the terrorists within minutes..what the heck do they do they expect... another communal riots.
.....these $%$% western journalists continue to be a bigger terror than the real terrorists....
Thanks Kim for this
ReplyDeleteIndeed very sad that such incidents are occuring yet again
Take care

Unfortunately, this time it did not happen to faceless, unknown people. One employee in my company lost her husband who had his head blown off , another ex-employee , a bright research analyst lies in the hospital breathing through a ventilator with broken ribs and perforated lungs barely alive. One employee in my wife's company lost his father.
